A new report claims to reveal more about Sony's approach to its Marvel Universe, offering an explanation as to why Spider-Man never appeared in the likes of Venom, Morbius, and now Kraven the Hunter.

Luckily for Spider-Man fans, there are multiple villains introduced for the first time in “Kraven the Hunter.” Fred Hechinger plays the master of disguise Chameleon; Alessandro Nivola is the super-strong Rhino; Christopher Abbott is the mercenary the Foreigner; and Ariana DeBose is the mystical Calypso.

With a dismal box office outlook, “Kraven the Hunter” may add to Sony’s list of Spider-Man spinoffs that failed to capture audiences, including “Madame Web” and “Morbius.”

On the sliding scale of the Sony Spider-Man Universe (which, in case you’ve forgotten, doesn’t actually include Spider-Man), your choices are “so inept its funny,” “just kind of a slog,” or “the first two Venom flicks.

"Kraven the Hunter" has the second lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of the entire Spider-Man movie franchise. It's low, but one film was even lower.

Kraven the Hunter may have a worse opening weekend at the domestic box office than Madame Web. Kraven the Hunter is now playing in United States theaters courtesy of Sony Pictures. Potentially the last film to be set within Sony’s Spider-man Universe,
