That same brand has just given the electric treatment to its legendary Skyline GT-R R32 model, a car that will be unveiled at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon in early January. That’s the model born in 1989 that was originally powered by a 276-hp twin-turbo 2.6-liter straight-6 and featured in the Fast and Furious franchise in ‘Furious 7’ from 2015.

An in-house shed-build, led by a single enthusiast within the company, to electrify an R32 Skyline GT-R. A year and a half later, the project is now apparently ready for its grand reveal at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon.

While most enthusiasts probably aren’t keen on seeing a classic GT-R lose its inline-six heart, an electric Skyline is somewhat of an interesting proposition. The car’s smooth power delivery and all-wheel-drive character can theoretically be recreated with modern electric motor controllers, albeit without the sweet sound or texture of the RB.

Nissan has unveiled plans for its lineup at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon, featuring a modified R32 Skyline GT-R converted into a full electric vehicle (EV).

No official technical details have been revealed yet, but it won’t be surprising if it’ll borrow bits from the Ariya Nismo. If that proves to be the case, it’ll have power figures deserving of a GT-R—435 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque. Moreover, it’ll have a dedicated “Nismo” mode and of course, the brand’s advanced e-4orce all-wheel drive system.

A skunkworks team of Nissan engineers has built a R32 Skyline GT-R powered by batteries, and we'll see it at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon.
