Cam Newton had a pretty good reason not to attend the last 13 Heisman Trophy ceremonies before Saturday night. But he also had a pretty good reason to break that absence and return to the stage he once graced.

During this week’s episode of his “ 4th and 1” podcast, Newton said he will attend the Saturday night presentation because award finalist Travis Hunter, a Colorado cornerback/wide receiver, is a former participant in Newton’s youth seven-on-seven program.

Saturday will mark the first time the former Auburn QB has attended the ceremony since 2010, when he won the award. Newton is showing up to support one of his former 7-on-7 players, Travis Hunter.
