WBUR announced Friday that it would be cancelling “Radio Boston,” a midday talk show that has been part of the station for 17 years.

The staff behind “Radio Boston” will move to a team focused on “timely coverage of the most pressing and interesting local issues."

WBUR is canceling its longtime midday talk show, as more changes come to Boston’s NPR station following layoffs amid a financial crisis. The Commonwealth Avenue station on Friday announced that it will be ending the midday show Radio Boston after a 15-year run for the local program.

The move follows a 13% staff cut earlier this year and a decision to focus resources on Morning Edition and All Things Considered, which draw the largest number of listeners.
