The situation was brought under control with the intervention of the Superintendent of Police (SP), the District Commissioner (DC), and personnel from the army and police.

DHAKA: Law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh arrested on Saturday four people for vandalising and damaging houses, shops and the local Loknath temple of the Hindu community in the Doarabazar area of Sunamganj district earlier this month.

Bangladesh has acknowledged 88 incidents of communal violence targeting Hindu minorities between August and October.

Bangladesh has been in the midst of a deepening political crisis and a significant social divide since August 5 when the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country following a mass uprising led by students.

Four people were arrested in connection with the incident. A case was filed against 150-170 unidentified people for vandalising the Loknath temple, damaging houses and shops belonging to people from the Hindu community.

There have been a spate of incidents of violence against Hindus and other minorities, as well as attacks on temples in Bangladesh in the last few weeks.

Law enforcement agencies on Saturday arrested four people for vandalising and damaging a Hindu temple and houses and shops of the community in Sunamganj district in north Bangladesh. Police also filed a case against 12 named persons and 150-170 unidentified people.
