A new resolution introduced by Maine Senators Susan Collins and Angus King passed in the Senate earlier this week, officially marking Saturday as Wreaths Across America Day.The days honors fallen service members by laying Maine-made balsam wreaths at veterans' graves across the country.

The city of Brewer was one of roughly 4,600 communities across the U.S. that participated in Wreaths Across America events Saturday to honor and remember the sacrifices veterans made for our country.

“We are honored to host Wreaths Across America Day 2024. This day provides visitors an opportunity to reflect on the importance of service and learn the stories of the men and women who fought for our country,” said Executive Director of the Office of Army Cemeteries and Army National Military Cemeteries Karen Durham-Aguilera.

Bonded by their pride for the red, white, and blue, volunteers came together on Saturday for a cause bigger than themselves. But for some of them, it's a bit more personal.

Over one hundred people gathered Saturday at Saint Matthews Cemetery in West Seneca to pay their respects and make sure those who served are never forgotten. A simple gesture went a long way to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Family members and volunteers recognize veterans during the holiday season in a nationwide movement. Wreaths Across America, a movement based in Maine, sent wreaths across the country to be laid at the headstones of veterans to honor their sacrifice all in one day.
