Carson Palmer, a Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL quarterback, is the new football coach at his alma mater, Santa Margarita High School, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Times’ Sam Farmer. Palmer was helping coach the freshman team, where his son was playing quarterback.

Former USC and NFL quarterback Carson Palmer is joining the coaching ranks. Unlike Bill Belichick, Palmer won’t be taking his talents to college but will instead be taking over as head coach at Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.

Palmer is a former Santa Margarita player who went on to win the Heisman Trophy at USC and played in the NFL for 14 seasons.
