VANCOUVER — Their goal-scoring mine all but stripped to rubble, the Bruins on Saturday panned for gold on the waiver wire by claiming Oliver Wahlstrom, the 24-year-old former Boston College forward, from the Islanders.

The Bruins need scoring and they don’t have much cap space. So when a cost-effective opportunity presented itself on Saturday, they took it. The B’s, ranked 29th in offense (2.48 goals per game), claimed one-time 11th overall pick Oliver Wahlstrom off waivers from the New York Islanders.

VANCOUVER — Oliver Wahlstrom knows how to shoot. The 24-year-old right-shot wing snaps off heavy and accurate pucks. The New York Islanders thought highly enough of Wahlstrom’s puck-launching skill to take him No. 11 overall in 2018.
