Delhi's air quality worsened on Sunday as the Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in the 'poor category' alongside a significant drop in temperature, intensifying cold wave conditions across the city.According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB),

As temperatures dropped to low single digits, homeless people across Delhi sought refuge in government-run shelter homes. Around Jama Masjid and AIIMS Delhi, people were seen wrapped in thick blankets, trying to cope with the harsh cold.

The Air Quality Index in Delhi remained 'poor' at 212 on Saturday morning, with specific areas recording varying levels.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CQAM), which is responsible for air quality over Delhi-NCR, introduced a revised plan on December 14 to combat winter pollution, urging states to enforce stricter measures when air quality declines.

IMD scientist Soma Sen Roy warned that the temperature could further take a drop by 1-2 degrees Celsius due to the winds in North India.

The India Meteorological Department on Saturday said that the temperatures in Delhi were expected to drop by 1-2 degrees Celsius in the coming days due to shifting wind patterns and that the severe cold waves were also likely to be recorded in Punjab and Madhya Pradesh.
