After the fall of Bashar Assad, Syrian refugees living in Germany are experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions. But now, a week after rebel forces seized the capital, Damascus, many of the Syrians exiled in Germany are asking themselves what's next for Syria and for themselves and their families.

Around one million Syrians live in Germany, most of whom arrived in the country during the 2015 migration crisis sparked by the civil war that broke out in Syria in 2011. Some have since obtained German nationality but the majority have not,

On Monday Germany's Federal Office for Migration and Refugees put on hold all pending applications from Syrian asylum seekers. This affects 47,270 Syrians in Germany, who are waiting for an answer to their application for asylum.
