Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Saturday cited Hindutva idealogue VD Savarkar`s criticism of the Constitution that there was “nothing Indian about it” to attack the BJP and said the ruling party is “defaming and ridiculing” its own “supreme leader” when it talks about protecting the Constitution.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of being “supporters of Manusmriti” adding that “their supreme leader Savarkar always blamed the Indian Constitution”.

In his address, Gandhi referred to Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar's remark that there "is nothing Indian about our Constitution" to attack the BJP in Parliament. Gandhi said Savarkar believed that the Constitution should be superseded by the Manusmriti.
