The three goals in the middle period — which came in a span of 2:18 by Quinton Byfield, Adrian Kempe and Phillip Danault — sent Shesterkin to the bench in favor of backup Jonathan Quick, a former King. Shesterkin sat at the end of the Rangers bench with his mask still on after leaving the game.

The benching comes a little more than a week after Shesterkin agreed to a massive eight-year, $92 million contract with the Rangers. The final goals came 24 seconds apart when Adrian Kempe and Phillip Danault scored at 4:40 and 5:04 of the second.

The Rangers trail 5-1 to the Kings after the second period with the team making a goalie switch midway through the game.
