Saints interim coach Darren Rizzi already announced that second-year backup Jake Haener would make his first NFL start Sunday at Caesars Superdome. But Carr, who sustained a concussion and left hand injury last Sunday against the New York Giants, was not ruled out as a backup for the game until Saturday.

Derek Carr will not start Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders, but interim coach Darren Rizzi said Friday that there's a chance he might be available.
